Corinth Pipeworks wins Rovuma LNG pipe contract

Corinth Pipeworks (CPW), the steel pipe business of Cenergy, has been awarded a contract to supply linepipe for phase one of the Rovuma LNG project in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique.

The Rovuma LNG project is operated by Mozambique Rovuma Venture, an incorporated joint venture comprising ExxonMobil, Eni and CNPC, which collectively hold a 70% stake in the Area 4 concession. The remaining 30% is shared equally between XRG, Kogas and Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos. Under the agreement, Corinth Pipeworks will produce approximately 250km of longitudinally submerged arc-welded (LSAW) steel line pipe with a total weight of around 120,000t.

The pipes, with diameters between 20in and 24in, will form part of the offshore pipeline network for the Rovuma LNG project. The supply scope also includes anti-corrosion coating and concrete weight coating for the pipes. The Rovuma LNG project is expected to have a production capacity of 18.6 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Corinth Pipework general manager Ilias Bekiros said: “We are proud to be selected for the Rovuma LNG Project, one of the most significant energy developments currently under way worldwide. “This award reflects the confidence that leading energy operators place in Corinth Pipeworks’ technical capabilities, manufacturing excellence and ability to successfully execute complex offshore projects.

“It further reinforces our position as a trusted partner for critical energy infrastructure on a global scale.” Manufacturing will be conducted at Corinth Pipeworks’ facilities in Thisvi, Greece. The project requires line pipe capable of withstanding challenging conditions encountered in deepwater gas operations. Earlier this month, ExxonMobil Mocambique issued a letter of intent to McDermott Energy Solutions (UK) covering limited engineering and procurement services for the continuation of the Rovuma LNG phase one project.
