Equinor starts production at Troll phase three, stage two in North Sea

26.08.2026 3 Минут чтения

Equinor has begun production from the Troll Phase 3 stage 2 subsea project in the Norwegian North Sea, bringing additional gas to the Troll A platform.

Equinor has begun production from the Troll phase three, stage two subsea project in the Norwegian North Sea, bringing additional gas to the Troll A platform. The new output is expected to contribute to maintaining jobs and supplying high volumes of gas to Europe from both Troll A and the Kollsnes processing plant. Combine business intelligence and editorial excellence to reach engaged professionals across 36 leading media platforms. Find out more The latest development is set to accelerate the recovery of around 55 billion standard cubic metres (bscm) of gas from the Troll West reservoir, an amount roughly equivalent to nearly two years of France’s gas demand.

The Troll partnership comprises Equinor, Petoro, Shell, TotalEnergies and ConocoPhillips. Troll phase three, stage two makes use of the subsea installations established during the phase three project by applying the same design and standardised systems. Phase three began operations in 2021.

Equinor Troll and Kvitebjørn vice-president Lill Harriet Brusdal said: “Troll is the backbone of Norwegian gas exports to Europe. This project accelerates production from the reservoir, helping maintain today’s high level of gas exports from Troll and Kollsnes for as long as possible. “With both Troll A and the Kollsnes gas plant powered by electricity from shore, the gas is produced with very low emissions.” Production from stage two started just over two years after the investment commitment was made by the partners. The project involved the extension of umbilicals, a new 28km, 36in pipeline laid by the Pioneering Spirit , as well as an eight-well drilling campaign finished in five and a half months using the Deepsea Aberdeen rig from Odfjell. SLB and Baker Hughes provided services for the project.

Aker Solutions in Egersund manufactured templates and manifolds for OneSubsea, which were later installed at the field by Ocean Installer. The overall cost estimate for the project was $1.3bn (Nkr12.3bn), with the start-up originally scheduled for later in the year. Separately, Equinor announced that its equity production outside Norway reached 750,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd) in the second quarter of 2026 (Q2 2026), representing growth of more than 10% over two years.

In the US, production rose to 433,000boepd during the same period, an increase of roughly 100,000boepd compared to Q2 2024. Angola remains a key market for Equinor, which entered the country in 1991, and continues to see high production levels and the prospect of new developments. In June 2026, Equinor and operator Azule Energy approved the Greater PAJ project, which is expected to come online in 2029 and add roughly 250 million barrels of resources. In Brazil, Equinor sees the country as a central contributor to its international growth by 2030, with equity production on track to reach 200,000boepd.

The Bacalhau field began production in late 2025 and continues to increase output, while the Raia project aims for start-up in 2028, with the potential to meet around 15% of Brazil’s projected gas demand. Equinor recently agreed to acquire a 17.4% participating interest in petroleum exploration licence 90 in the Orange Basin off the coast of Namibia from Harmattan Energy, a subsidiary of Chevron.
