Aker BP begins production from Skarv Satellites in Norwegian Sea

26.08.2026 2 Минут чтения

Aker BP has commenced production from the Skarv Satellite Project in the Norwegian Sea, bringing the Alve Nord, Idun Nord and Ørn fields online one year ahead of the initial schedule.

Aker BP has commenced production at the Skarv Satellite Project in the Norwegian Sea, bringing the Alve Nord, Idun Nord and Ørn fields online one year ahead of the initial schedule. The developments hold nearly 120 million barrels of oil equivalent (mboe) in recoverable resources. In addition, they aim to improve flexibility and prolong operational life for the infrastructure surrounding the Skarv field. Combine business intelligence and editorial excellence to reach engaged professionals across 36 leading media platforms.

Find out more The Alve Nord, Idun Nord and Ørn fields are located near the existing Skarv field in the northern Norwegian Sea. They have each been developed as separate subsea projects, linked together through the Skarv Satellite Project. Each development incorporates a subsea template and two wells, all tied back to the Skarv floating production, storage and offloading facility.

Aker BP indicated that efficient use of existing infrastructure has kept the carbon dioxide (CO₂) intensity of production at around 4.5kg per barrel of oil equivalent (boe). This resource development is designed to reinforce Skarv as a key production area and support further expansion in the region. Aker BP CEO Karl Johnny Hersvik said: “The start-up of the Skarv Satellites is an important milestone for Aker BP. Through a single integrated project, we have brought three new fields on stream, one year ahead of the original schedule. “This demonstrates what we can achieve through close collaboration between our employees, alliance partners and suppliers.

I would like to thank everyone who has contributed. “The Skarv Satellites strengthen one of our most important production areas and will generate significant value for many years to come.” Project delivery followed Aker BP’s alliance model and involved suppliers such as OneSubsea, Subsea7, Aker Solutions and Halliburton, and Saipem during drilling. Aker BP said that procurement was largely domestic, with around 60% of goods and services sourced from Norwegian suppliers, which in turn has helped stimulate economic activity in the region.

According to Aker BP, production from these satellites will make up a substantial part of Skarv area output for several years and is expected to build a foundation for future resource development in the Norwegian Sea. The licence holders vary by field, with Aker BP operating all three. The partners are Harbour Energy, ORLEN Upstream Norway, Equinor and JAPEX Norge. Earlier this month, Aker BP and Equinor concluded drilling operations at the Svarteknippa site in the Norwegian North Sea without discovering any hydrocarbons.
